The Best of 2008

I’m writing this post from my phone… Since I won’t be able to get back to my computer anytime soon. I started a “Best of 2008” post, but I won’t be able to finish it before 12. So I just wanted to make a quick unedited list of what I thought was the best styles and stuff in 2008.

Best Item/Trend:
Skinny ties. There was nothing more refreshing than seeing guys hitting the red carpet in a skinny tie. Zac Efron is one of the best examples of a star that who rocked this trend very well.

Best Designer:
Damn, this is such a hard one, but ummm let’s see. Ralph? Sean? Marc? Thom?…. I feel like DSquared did a pretty bang up job in 2008, but really guys this is a hard one, hmmm for the sake of giving you one answer I’ll say Marc Jacobs- since he basically designs like 3 lines- Marc by Marc Jacobs, Marc Jacobs, and Louis Vuitton… I just feel like that’s such a cliche’ response. So I’m open to your opinions on this one…

Best New Designer:
Why Bejamin Bixby of course. I’m sorry, but no one ever quite does it like Andre 3000. I am confident in his ability to continue to create classically stylish clothing. If he keeps it up and pushes a little harder, he should be designer of the year in a few years.

Best Dressed Athlete:
David Beckham. I don’t even have to expound on this because its so obvious.

Best Dressed Young Star:
Chris Brown. C-Breezy is a young stylish guy and I’ll just leave it at that.

Best Style:
Urban Prep. This style is the signature Urban Gentleman look… The modern man must learn to mix the classics with modern trends and following this look is an easy way to get there.

Best Dressed Male All Around
… well from the looks of the survey on the top left section of the site– Kanye West still seems to dominate. And I agree, he’s one stylish dude.

Best Moment in 2008:
Barack Obama becoming President… November 4th 2008 will forever be one of the best days of my life.

Person of The Year:
C’mon that’s an easy one. Barack Obama. America and this world just won’t be the same. He gives hopes to so many people, and… well, you guys know the deal.

Let Me Know What You All Think Was Great In 2008…
Which stars you liked and didn’t like, what styles you liked and didn’t like, etc.

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!! Be safe tonight and don’t drink and drive.

  1. I love your blog! You may also like my retro inspired fashion blog, Retro Ho.

  2. For me at least…the Greatest/worst trend was the arab scarf…some people like myself can do it…others can’t…

  3. I agree w/ ol’ dude above me with the greatest/worst trend. I have seen A LOT of people fail miserably at trying to pull off wearing a scarf.

And I would have to say the best dressed male all-around should be a toss-up between Lupe and Kanye. Both of their styles are ridiculous, but a little different from one another. For those not looking to go over the top but still be distinctive and stylish, you have to go w/ Lupe, but then if you want outlandish…Kanye, and Andre3000.

But I’m looking for some big things into ’09 from this blog Jacinda, I even have an idea or two for you….

  4. Loving the blog. My wardrobe is more versatile thanks to this blog. Best blog of 08!

Hopefully you can get some pics up of these awards you’ve given out.

And for best dressed athlete I’m taking Chris Paul for 09! Its hard to get pics of him, but his pre-game get-up is nice!

  5. Alicia aka "Fashiona"

Love your site the name is fab. Let me know if you are interested in a link swap.

  6. I agree with your list and the comments. The arab scarf was huge this year.
I feel someone who doesn’t get enough credit for his style is Ne-Yo. Yeah he doesn’t wear super trendy stuff but he pulls of classic looks like no other.

  7. I think Sean John is the best designer label simply because its both urban & chic & regardless how you feel about puffy, the clothes are fly from the block to the boardroom

  8. I also think the worst trend aside from the arab square scarfs were skinny jeans on men. Sorry but it wasn’t a very masculine look on dudes, celebs could get away with it but regular dudes were lookin’ suspect. that doesn’t mean extra baggy jeans were cool either just in 09 let’s wear pants that fit accordingly

  9. i must agree with you on skinny ties. Zac Efron did rock it out.

  10. For me I think an under looked style for 2008 was what I like to call the classic gentleman’s hat AKA the Fedora.
It was a really good look. Celebrities such as john legend, Jamie Foxx,Andre 3000 and Diddy all rocked it. A true embodiment of swag.
You can dress it with a classic black one button suit or dress it down with a v neck white tee and a fresh pair of jeans.

  11. i wore the arab scarf as a statement back in 2005 people were looking at me like u fool but now its all Hot
the kafhia scarf actually means freedom to palestine !
