Lexus oh Lexus, the memories…. I used to feel so cool driving my older brothers Lexuses to school. Between the ivory metallic SC430 and black-on-black frogged-eyed GS– I was stuntin' at 16, lol. One of them later on traded up into a big body LS (white with peanut butter interior, and red painted calibers). So, I grew up very familiar with their brand, and from a young age I was able to experience the famous Lexus mix of reliability and luxury.

That said… can I be just a wee bit honest here? I hate to say it, but over the past few years I did start to feel like Lexus had sorta kinda lost its, well…. swag. Not in all areas of course, their trucks and sports cars always go super hard (you can park a shiny new LX570 in my driveway any day of the week (hint hint)), but I was beginning to sleep on the sedans. That's why I was super excited to learn that they were launching their new 2013 GS this year. And even more excited when they invited The Urban Gentleman out to experience it in person… it's about time we were reunited.

Once the weekend commences I'll have more details and real life experience specs on the GS. In the meantime, check out Lexus's first ever Super Bowl Commercial:

You likee? Keep your eye out for it on Sunday.

In the meantime we'd like to do a little bit of Lexus Trivia. Answer the question below for a chance to win:

- A one-year Pandora One premium subscription

- 2 movie tickets a month for a year from MovieTickets.com

- A $100 OpenTable dining card (All courtesy of Lexus).

QUESTION:

What year did the Lexus GS go on sale?

Answer correctly and you can be the lucky winner! The winner will be announced Superbowl Sunday of course. So get to tweeting and facebooking @LexusGS @TheUrbanGent #Superbowl #GS #Winning

We've recently teamed up with authentic Italian denim brand Meltin' Pot for a closer look into their Fall/Winter denim collection. We had the opportunity to create 4 looks for Meltin' Pot, check them out below:

"The 90s Kid": I created an updated 90s look on Ben, by using the Meltin Pot Misfits which are truly skinny jeans, the jeans are paired with a Meltin' Pot shirt/jacket and topped off with a vintage buffalo plaid coat. To properly accessorize I opted for a classic Atlanta Hawks snapback, gold watch, and a 90s kid closet staple– LA Gears.

Meltin Pot Items Worn: shirt/jacket (red white black )– MS007 T7183 RS05; black denim– MISFITS D1401 RK002 (Also featured: vintage LL Bean Jacket)

"Urban Cowboy": Simple and southern, I paired a Meltin Pot denim shirt with the perfect dark denim Meltin Pot braces/suspenders jeans. To accent the double denim I added a pair of limited edition cowboy braces and tan rugged boots. This look stands alone well, but to push it a bit further I accessorized the look with a simple native print scarf and a gold pin. (cowboy hat optional, lol).

BUY THE LOOK, here.

(Also featured: Limited Edition Trafalgar braces (use code RODEO: to get 10% off), and UGG Fallbrook boots)

"City Hermit": This look really ties into our urbane wanderer trend quite well. As if he's living in the desert, the city hermit wears a muted color palette to blend in with his environment– streets and buildings instead of sand dunes and stone plateaus. For this look I introduce my own spin on ombre, by creating color blocked ombre (see more details under Fall/Winter Tips). I start from the bottom with beige desert boots and I build up the color with beige and khaki socks, khaki slim fit Meltin' Pot chinos, and of course a double dose of brown-olive with the Meltin Pot callum shirt, and light-weight coat. I added a few optional hard-hitting accessories with the watch, camouflage scarf, and a heavy duty Chrome Pawn backpack.

BUY THE LOOK, here.

"Untitled": It was hard for me to come up with a name for this look, but basically it focuses on the simple, yet stylish and manly "guy's guy". You know the man who watches sports, and likes style, but doesn't want to overdo it. He refuses to wear "that skinny shit", lol, but he's all about tailored, well-fitting clothing. For this look Ben wears a thermal shirt and vintage game-worn Georgia Tech football jersey underneath a Meltin' Pot's fur collar pilot's coat. And for his denim I chose Meltin' Pot's carrot fit jeans (the worn-in wash on these are fantastic). I keep the manliness going with a thick pair of navy/white knit socks, tall boots, vintage Navy hat, and optional rugby striped scarf.

10 FALL WINTER MEN'S STYLE TIPS

Ankles on Display: That's right fully displayed, but socked up of course. Play around with fully displaying your socks this season. Meaning roll up our pants or push them up above your thick textured boot socks. You'll end up with a clean layering of boots-socks-pants.

Plaid on Plaid: Plaid on Plaid on Plaid (you gotta say it like "stacks on stacks on stacks" though, lol). Plaid, ahh, boring right? Well let's revitalize it a bit. This summer we added army fatigue to it to give a boost, now just get raw with it– add plaid on plaid on plaid. But different pattern plaids, and in those cozy winter textures.

Colorblocked Ombre: Ombre is basically shades of color or different gradients of a color, usually going from light to dark. While women see this trend in their dresses, jackets, etc. men mostly see the ombre trend in accessories and maybe t-shirts. Well, we've put our Urban Gent spin on it, and have created "colorblocked ombre". Start from the top or bottom and gradually increase the intensity of the color you're wearing. We started with cream shoes, khaki and cream socks, khaki/olive trousers, then solid bold olive-brown shirt and jacket.

Braces/Suspenders: 'Tis the season for manning up, basically its getting cold so beards and 'staches are growing out. Complete the look with a pair of braces– that means they should button on, not clamp .

Hint of Pattern: Last year it was all about the hint of camouflage, now it's more all inclusive. Add a touch of something extra to your 'fit with a patterned highlight, whether it's camouflage, native prints, or anything else you may like.

Sock Season: Yep, it's sock season, and we're getting giddy like little kids, hehehe. Because these days a man has to have a couple pairs on deck that are pretty much specifically to be seen by those who gaze upon him. Patterns of all shades and sizes and colors are appropriate. (check back in a few weeks we're gonna have something special for you sock fiends).

Denim on Denim: An Urban Gent oldie, but goodie. In the summer you double-denimed with lighter colors, for winter do it with darker denim. Add a few cowboy details to push it up a notch.

Preppy Hints: As much as I love classic prep gear, it's getting a bit hackneyed, right?! Yea, it is, so let's slow it down before we hate it and go the complete opposite into grunge-wear or something. To ease up on the prep, let's keep it to the accessories, like scarves.

90s: Add a little 90s to your look whenever you can– snapbacks, simply oversized sneakers, gold accessories, whatever fits the bill.

Simple Accessories: It's fine to overdose here and there, but keep accessories simple. They should compliment not overtake your ensemble… think hat, watch, and patterned socks.

They call him Mr. Denim, his name? Cosimo Damiano Romano. Read his history and the story behind the brand below.

Cosimo Damiano Romano was born to two modest parents in Matino, which is in the Puglia region of Italy. The 3rd of ten children, Cosimo at the age of 8 has to come to terms with the loss of his mother and his adolescence is divided between working in the fields and school. At an early age he abandons his studies to assist his father. Whilst immigration seems to be the only solution for many, the young and eager Cosimo used his stubbornness to discover alternative routes to abandoning his family, home and region of southern Italy.

His first move is a job as a driver for local typographers but his desire to create and build his own enterprise continues to rein strong. His first flirt with the world of clothing industry commences alongside his wife, Antoinetta (a tailor) producing children’s clothing for a small store but 1967 is the year in which the generous and jovial Cosimo is to meet a jeans wholesale and that meeting would change his life. The idea to create a clothing production company with his family united is born and in 1979 Romano Confezioni was created amidst the peak era of the
“denim jeans boom”, providing his ever growing clientele with a full cycle production service. During the growth of the company Cosimo is awarded by the Republic many prestigious industry and commerce awards for excellence.

In 1988, Cosimo gives life to a new society named; “Confezioni C.Romano & C. S.r.l.” a new factory site is created and built which is later increased in 1992 to span some 30.000 Mq. In 1994 following years of investment in new production techniques and the factory, Romano takes the initiative to invest in the promotion, marketing and production of a brand new concept. That concept is the birth of it’s own brand Meltin’Pot, into which Romano pours its years of know-how and expertise which in a short period of time becomes a strong brand player within the European denimwear market. Meltin Pot has recently launched their dedicated e-commerce site. www.meltinpot.com

Romano Spa continues to produce jeans and denimwear for brands such as Stella McCartney, Karl Lagerfeld, and Notify to name a few.

Augusto Romano, Cosimo’s son, is the Managing Director of the company whilst Romano remains President of the Romano Spa and continues to challenge the production industry with initiative techniques as he did over 30 years ago.

Summary of MANGROOMER Products: Clearly the ManGroomer shavers are for the man who wants to keep his entire body manscaped. Their shavers are very easy to use for either a quick trim -or- for a more precise, time-consuming cut… yanno, when you're aiming for an almost Adonis, sculpture-like look. ManGroomer also does a pretty good job making their shavers as ergonomic as possible, which is highly appreciated when you're dealing with "sensitive areas". The nose and back clippers are especially designed to help you achieve an easier and more efficient clean shave.

Below are individual reviews with the following information: 1.)Feel/Application 2.) Immediate Results 3.)Short-term/Long-term Results

Nose Clipper: 1.) The round nozzle at the tip of the clipper has the perfect shape for your nostrils – allowing for a painless experience. 2.) You can instantly see a dramatic change 3.) On average you’ll have to use the nose clipper about every week

Full Body & Back Clipper: 1 & 2.) You have to use as directed in order to get a smooth, close painless shave. Meaning, when cutting – you must lead with the guide comb. Once you figure out this little trick you'll be privy to a, dare I say "fun" shaving experience. Seriously, once you start it's sorta hard to stop. There is a con though– it's hard to get a clean shave in the lower pelvic area due to the curvature of the body combined with the lack of flexibility of the clipper head (Full Bod Clipper). The Back Clipper has an extended arm that bends to allow the operator to easily reach all the hard to get spots– this is an obvious plus. 3.) Everyone’s genome and rate of hair growth differs but on average to maintain that initial groomed look you’ll have to shave every 6-10 days. The shaving mechanism on all these clippers are superb! Not sure how often I'll have to replace the head though.

MENAJI– "Skincare for the Confident Man"

Summary of MENAJI Products: This bold skincare line embarks on the rough and sensitive terrain of Men’s grooming. Like most lines, Menaji has products for face cleansing and moisturizing, but what makes them novel are their “correct” and “conceal” products formulated especially for men. Now some may just see those particular products in their line as "makeup" and automatically dismiss it. But let's keep it real– most male celebrities use a little (or a lot) of makeup when they're on television, in movies, and when going to events… so I can totally see the modern "metrosexual" man having a little "conceal and correct" in his "manbag" amongst all his other products. This skincare line is certainly aimed at men who also want a quick and easy fix to small imperfections (basically, you don't want to wait for that light spot to go away, you want to conceal it now). Overall the Menaji products that were tested have a great application, leaving your skin re-vitalized and vibrant. However, all skin is not created equal so some products work better depending on the degree of oil your skin retains. But don’t fret! If you have drier skin just add a little oil pre/post to administering the application and you can maximize your results.

Below are individual reviews with the following information: 1.)Feel/Application 2.) Immediate Results 3.)Short-term/Long-term Results

Deep Cleansing Masque: 1.) The initial feeling yields a clean refreshing sensation 2.) This masque doesn’t leave your skin feeling in dire need of moisture, in fact, depending on the degree to which your skin retains oil– you may feel the need to cleanse your face again (Menaji recommends using once to twice a week).

Camo: 1.) It glides onto the skin smoothly leaving no granular trail 2.) I have a "deep tan" "copper" or "medium bronze" type skin tone. And the rule of thumb is to go one shade lighter than your complexion when it comes to concealers. Menaji gave us the bronze camo (aka: male concealer) which was much more beige or "dark vanilla" than bronze so for me the initial application was too light for my skin tone. In an effort to keep from embarrassment I added some oil to the application and that calmed down the brightness to make it more even to my skin tone. Though I had to tweak it to blend, it actually did a great job minimizing small imperfections 3.) Long-lasting, no need to re-apply.

Eye Gel: 1.) "Emulsion with integrity" – goes on the skin smoothly with a nice cooling effect 2.) Due to the cooling effect under your eye, you'll get an instinct to wipe it off because it feels like water is on your face… But DON’T! lol. 3.) It takes about 30 minutes to feel a slight tightness of skin under the eye which last for a couple hours. By that time you should be awake and the sleeping bags under your eye should disappear.

Purchase MENAJI products, here.

CASWELL-MASSEY 1752

Summary of Caswell-Massey 1752 Products: Good product line. Definitely better than your average shaving products, but could be seen as average when compared to other previously reviewed shaving lines. However, Caswell’s products have a eucalyptus component which attributes to their strong rejuvenating effects. Their product line has a natural masculine scent that’s very commercial. Every man will like it.

Below are individual reviews with the following information: 1.)Feel/Application 2.) Immediate Results 3.)Short-term/Long-term Results

Essential Pre-Shave Oil: 1.) High quality oil, very soothing and nourishing to the skin. 2.) Helps restore nature oil balance without leaving the skin too oily. 3.) Keeps the skin moisturized for 5-7hours.

Original Shave Cream: 1.) Thick and creamy consistency that coats the skin very well. 2.) Post shaving, the skin feels very supple, tight, and non-irritated 3.) Have to shave every other day – this product does not retard hair growth.

Exfoliating Wash 1.) Feels very light more similar to a face scrub than an all out exfoliate 2.) Immediate rejuvenating sensation! Thanks eucalyptus! 3.) Like most exfoliates you should only use once a week but due to the lightness of this wash you could probably use it 2-3X a week.

It's always fun to receive new gadgets from companies, one of our latest is the Samsung Focus from Microsoft.

I must admit– I subconsciously doubt almost every touchscreen phone. It's a bad habit, I know, but I just automatically assume they won't work as quick and effectively as, well, yanno… that other phone with the fruit symbol. But once again my doubts are proven to be unfounded– the Samsung Focus not only has a touchscreen that work darn-near flawlessly, the start up is quick (this means the world to us BB users), and the display screen is bright, clear, and quite gorgeous.

The main differentiating feature that makes the Samsung Focus unique is its navigation. The "windows" or "tile" menu makes navigating easier and faster, allowing you to be updated on everything (messages, Facebook, calls, etc) without having to open and close multiple applications, ergo, you can focus on what matter to you the most. That sounds kinda cliche', but it's true. Other notable features: its light-weight and slim size, Xbox LIVE and Zune integration, and "audience noise reduction" feature for crystal clear calls.

For more Tech specs and to purchase, go here.

Additional Phone Features:

* Fast 3G connectivity via AT&T's HSPA/UMTS network (850/1900 MHz bands; 3.6/7.2 Mbps speeds with network availability).

* GPS navigation capabilities via AT&T Navigator service include audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates, and re-routing options. * Digital compass sensor

And of course they're okay to wear for practical purposes like– skiing, snowboarding, working in an extremely cold environment, etc. And okay, I'll give you a pass if you're going on a winter vacation, but even then it would have to be a cashmere, or heavy knit stylishly cut turtleneck. The basic, simple, cotton turtleneck just is not in style.

Steve Jobs Style Evolution

But then our beloved Steve Jobs passes away (RIP) and the sales of turtlenecks skyrocket. Steve's turtleneck brand of choice, the black St. Croix turtleneck, sold out days ago. He supposedly spent $4,200 a year on the Minnesota-made turtleneck (24 turtlenecks a year at $175 a pop). This Friday (October 14th), has been unofficially deemed "Black Turtleneck Friday" where fans will be sporting their own black turtleneck in remembrance of Steve Jobs (some will also wear his staple jeans and shoes: a pair of 90s fitting stonewash jeans (I'm thinking he wore the classics, Levi's 501, 550, 559) -and- New Balances to complete the "Steve Jobs" look). He stayed true to wearing all American brands (New Balances are made in Massachusetts and Maine), which of course is pretty cool.

Trend Analysis: With this random rise in turtleneck sales, and with the 70s trend being in (for women) and the 90s trend being in for men (and women) I can see these creeping back in our lives sooner than you might like. First with women of course, and then, maybe… just maybe with men. For now, if you want to get a black turtle neck, check out the selection below:

Last month The Urban Gent was invited to California along with various other design/art/fashion publications to check out the new Scion iQ, the world's smallest four seater. It was Toyota's first time inviting "the creatives" out to review one of their new cars instead of just the usual auto media. I knew I was in for a great time because c'mon, several days at a luxury hotel in sunny California?! I mean, it was gonna be a good time no matter what. But I'll admit that before learning about the inner details of what makes a Scion a Scion, I would have barely entertained the idea of owning one. Sure, it's a nice car, a few friends and I rented and explored Puerto Rico in one a few years ago, but to buy one? Idk….

Well, I'm happy to say my uncertainty and one-sided "luxury or old school American car only" type mindset was challenged, my mind was opened and now? I get it. After experiencing the Scion iQ firsthand I totally get the appeal, want, and need to own this obviously-made-for-easy-city-living vehicle.

The Scion iQ press event not only revealed the detailed specifications and innovations of the iQ, but the event also allowed us to have intimate talks with Scion's top executives and engineers. We learned more about their marketing/advertising features and plans, watched a graphic-filled and entertaining Scion iQ 3D film, and checked out a "live" version of the Scion iQ Museum Project. The kicker of course is when we cruised to Venice Beach in the iQ of our choice during the test-drive. While the 10-feet long car is incontestably tiny, it is surprisingly comfortable and handles quite well. Not to mention we were able to squeeze into a motorcycle reserved space at one point when pulling over to turn around <— that means parking will never be a major issue in this car.

There's a ton of information I want to give you, but I think it's best if I simplify and straightforwardly write the 4 major takeaways I personally got after being educated and immersed in all-things-Scion.

#1: 37 MPG. Best miles per gallon in the industry. There are a few cars that advertise higher mpg's, but that's almost always after they upgrade and modify the vehicle in some way, like upgrading the tires and such. The Scion iQ comes standard with its combined hwy/city 37 mpg (there's no asterisk mark by it). But if you include the upgrades of other cars when comparing, the iQ is still 75% more efficient than other hybrid or eco-friendly cars on the market– which is pretty damn good. As for me, well, I tire of spending hundreds a week filling up my tank (17 mpg/V-8 engine/premium gas), so the thought of barely spending in a month, what I currently spend in a week is super sweet.

#2: Pure Pricing. Most cars are advertised as one price, but then you get to the dealership and the pricing varies. So basically before going you have to prepare yourself. You can't just simply enjoy the experience of buying a car, instead you're stressed trying to haggle the salesperson down to the TV price. Scion relieves you of all that, there's one price: $15,995 ( that includes the delivery and complimentary Scion Service Boost maintenance program). Base price w/o delivery: $15,265.

#3: 11 Airbags. I was in an accident not too long ago, a reckless driver "T-boned" me and my 540i went spinning off the side of the road. My car was able to handle the heavy impact, but I often wonder how a tiny car would prevail in such an accident, and most importantly how the driver would prevail. Scion beautifully addresses this issue by having not 2 not 4 not 6, but 11 airbags. That's more than any car I know of. There's basically an airbag at every angle (including the innovative, world's first, rear-window curtain airbag) to keep the occupant in place during an accident and to prevent airbag injuries. This is a feature I wish my car had because while I'm sure my airbag helped keep me safe, it also caused most of my injuries… and, yes, I'm okay (thanks for asking).

.

#4: The Scion Culture. Even with all its winning features: mpg, pure pricing, and top tier safety features, some are still left wanting a cherry on the top of all the cake, icing, and whip cream. And in this case the cherry is of course the Scion culture. I'm no stranger to certain car brands having enthusiasts, but I was totally oblivious to the passionate, hard-core Scion enthusiasts. They actually organize meet-ups and drive cross country, yes cross country, by the groves to concerts and events. Alot, right? Maybe, but that's the type of stuff that goes down in the close-knit underground culture of Scion owners. That culture is what inspired Toyota to create the Scion iQ Museum Project, which spotlights influential cultural movements, moments, and individuals from recent history– particularly underground artist. This digital online museum will open with exhibitions featuring East L.A.'s Chicano Punk from the late 70s and early 80s, Detroit's Strata Records, producer Paul Prince, and rapper Big Daddy Kane. The Scion iQ Museum Project will launch later this Fall on scion.com.

Long story short, if you're on the market for a very fuel efficient car, that is innovatively safe, and comes with a built-in active, young underground culture, then a Scion iQ may just be the car for you. This premium mini-compact car is certainly one of the best in it's class. Get more details at scion.com.

Scion iQ Launch dates:

West Coast – Oct 1st

South – Jan 1st

East Coast – Feb 1st

Central – March 1st

The Scion iQ comes fully equipped, and includes a booming Pioneer audio system featuring a CD player, iPod connectivity, Bluetooth and HD Radio technology. Random Scion iQ Fact: Scion owners are the youngest of all other car owners in the USA.

Designed by Banana Republic Creative Director, Simon Kneen and Emmy® Award-winning Costume Designer Janie Bryant, the collection offers a modern take on the signature Mad Men 1960's style. Besides the 3-piece suit, the collection includes cardigans, vests, hats, ties, pocket squares, a tie clip, and a money clip.
I've heard people complain about BR suits in the past, mainly b/c of the cut and fit. Well, they've clearly stepped it up as the fit is nice and tailored "out of the box". Ben Swann (T.U.G ambassador above) is a relatively slim guy, about 6'0, and wears a 38R (38L in some brands), and everything fit true to size– pants are the right amount of slim w/ the perfect "barely there" break (in terms of length), the vest fit well (you can loosen and tighten if needed), and the jacket fit perfectly after getting it slightly taken in (though it honestly wasn't needed). Kneen and Bryant did a great job making the suit true to the Mad Men era, while also keeping it modern. Overall it's very sharp… I can definitely see Don Draper in it.

Note: If you're not slim you might want to go a size up, mainly in the pants.

EvolutionMan. Remember this newer luxury 'green' skincare line we featured last year? Used by Patrick Dempsey, Lebron James, and Seth Meyers just to name a few. Well, I get THE most compliments on my skin when using EvolutionMan– from random people commenting on how smooth my skin is to saying I have a "glow", lol… the response is sorta unexpectedly amazing. Combined with drinking lots of water, EvolutionMan keeps my skin very clear. I 100% recommend all men giving this line a try. Get, it here. ( -Thomas, T.U.G Contributor)

Sonicare Flexcare+. When Phillips first sent me the Sonicare Flexcare+, I thought I would try it out then stop using it when the batteries ran out, like I've done so many electronic toothbrushes in the past. But man was I wrong, not only is Sonicare Flexcare+ the best toothbrush I've ever used, I can confidently say that I will never not own one! Pretty extreme I know, but it's true. The design is nice and sleek, there's a UV cleaner included, and it actually does make you teeth whiter (or keeps them white). if you're on the market for a new electronic toothbrush -or- if you just know you need to step your dental care game up, then definitely get this. Get it, here.

Dove Men+Care. We were sent alot of the Dove Men+Care sets when it first came out, so they were disbursed out between giveaways, loyal T.U.G readers, friends, and family. And nearly everyone who was given this set now purchases it on a regular, and it has become one of their staples. Their bath tool wasn't a hit in the least bit (sorry, Dove), but everyone loves the bodywash/facewash. Get it, here.

Twinluxe Instant Energy Mist. We reviewed several Twinluxe products last year, and most of them proved to be quite excellent. Over the past couple of months I've been using the Instant Energy Mist and not only is it a refreshing facial 'wake-up', but it gives you a glow. The perfect thing to use after a long flight, or daily when you need a slight mid-day pick me up that isn't a Red Bull or 5-hour Energy Drink. Get it, here.
