Socks socks socks– whether striped or native-printed they're the latest essential statement making accessory for men. Stance and Nigel Knox loaded us up on socks, so in a late winter shoot we paired them with a few new pairs of Toms, stylish threads from Onassis, and a few other pieces.
"playing chinese checkers"; vintage Gant plaid button-up; selvedge Levis: Nigel Knox skull socks; Toms desert botas; LRG belt, Nixon watch
A few years ago it was all about skull scarves, last year and the year before skull velvet slippers, this year you gotta have atleast one pair of skull socks.
LRG crewneck sweater; Meltin' Pot denim; Stance camouflage socks; suede Toms shoes
vintage Atlanta snapback; Onassis chambray jacket shirt; Onassis harem pants; UGG sneakers; LRG scarf
Onassis has created a perfect pair of modern harem pants, not too over-exaggerated and Hammer-like, but just enough dimension in the shape to a second-look. (You can't see it in the pic, but the crotch of the pants does sag a bit, which of course adds to the authenticity of it being a pair of harems)

Winter is just about to come to an end, but before it warms up completely we have one last late winter/early spring T.U.G installment. This time in Oxford, Ga (photos from earlier this year– Jan/Feb 2011, w/ friends of the expanding T.U.G Crew: Cameron and Nedu)
Note: Even though it's warming up in the USA and many other places, it's cooling down and Autumn has just arrived in Australia, New Zealand, and other countries. So this will should especially be useful inspiration for readers in those locations.

Being polished, being perfect, being well-groomed– these are the makings of a conservative man. He gets his haircut every week, he gets his shoes shined, he opens the door for a lady, he knows to undo the lower button on his 2-button suit jacket when sitting down, and to just as quickly button it up as he stands. This, is the man that women dream of.
Editors notes: There has been so many colors, so many styles, so many… well, there is just so much going on with men’s fashion these days. You have guys bringing back the eye-catching hairstyles, the cross colors, the bright plaids, and much more. So this, Conservative Dapper, is like a break, a relaxing break from it all. It’s a return to simpler, easier, classic times. This is my favorite trend for the fall and winter.
To get the look: Trench coats, suits, crisp white button downs, tip-clips, white pocket squares, perfectly polished lace-ups.
Hard times call for drastic measures. Some people are recession proofing their lives literally, while others are taking the figurative route. This means roughing up the wardrobe, showing the world that “you got this”, you’re hard and you know it, you’re tough and a few troubles really don’t phase you.
Editors notes: To me this look is like Pony Boy meets Michael Jackson. You take the main edginess and ruggedness from the guys of the Outsiders and mix it with the jeweled/metallic/shiny/studded MJ from his “Bad era”. The late world icon has inspired alot of us this year and this trend is where his inspiration is placed for the fall and winter.
To get the look: Torn/ripped/worn jeans, leather jackets, studded everything- shirts, shoes, accessories, jackets, white t-shirts.
The men of the world are pleased with the fashions they have been dealt over the past year or so; therefore many of them have decided to just combine what they have learned. They mix their military jackets with their nerdish glasses, they combine their college cool tees with their Thom Browne inspired pants and oxford shoes. This season many guys are opting to be fashion connoisseurs, their phrase “we collect fashion, we create style”.
To get the look: band-jacket, cardigan, loafers, glasses, graphic tees, harem pants, torn jeans.
Editors Notes: “Ahhh (pleasant sigh of relief)” I feel like I just drank a nice tasty soda pop after being parched for an hour… well not literally, but that’s the feeling I get when I think about this trend- it’s just refreshing. Starting from this summer we saw all the men in Hollywood roughing it on the beaches- letting their beards grow in, chest hairs grow out. They were indirectly telling the world- it’s time to be men again, so let’s continue this trend for the fall. (I was going to make this apart of the summer trends and I did touch on it a bit in some posts, but I knew it would be better placed in Fall/Winter.)
To get the look: dark denim, perfectly fitted suits, ties, elegant and serious fedoras (none of that funny colorful ish), wing-tips, boots, blazers.
Other trends: Band/Military jackets are still at large, v-necks (there’s a boycott against deep v’s though), velvet ( ties, jackets, loafers).
Accessories: tie-clips, brooches/buttons, gold watches, knit ties.
Colors: Grays and dark tones.
To Get The Look: braces (suspenders), boots, jeans, flat front khakis, flannel jackets, khaki blazers, vests, corduroy pants, and clothing that reminds you of “the working man” throughout the early 1900′s.
Designers for the Look: D&G, Adam Kimmel, Z Zegna, Club Monaco/J.Crew
Urban Gent Comments: Very doable, very cool. This style is better for someone who exudes confidence… because not everybody can pull off seemingly wearing the same thing a few days in row.
To Get The Look: very slightly fitted graphic tees, denim jeans, sneakers/trainers, trendy book bag, wayfarer shades, bright colored “saggy skinny” jeans, converse, aviators, vans, fitted hats
Urban Gent Comments: I suggest only buying a few items that fit this trend because it’s not for everyone. Maybe a jacket and a scarf…
To Get The Look: jackets w/ fur collars, heavy sweaters, bright colored scarves, vest, fall colored suede pants, and any type clothing that makes you think “Russian Empire”
Designers for the Look: Ermenegildo Zegna,Gucci, D-squared
To Get The Look: dark denim, bright colored shirts, colored fitted jeans, v-neck shirts, gold jewelry, pumas, jordans, thrift store finds, blazers, sandel-oxfords, vest, fanny pack/book bag
Designers for the look: American Apparel, Gap, LRG, Creative Reaction
This look builds upon the preppy look that has swept our nation by storm. But instead of being so stereotypically preppy this new trend focuses on the idea that “less is more”. The 1950′s is the era the emulates this look with perfection.
Urban Gent Comments: This is one of my favorite fall fashion trends. If you follow it you will certainly be the cleanest lad on the block. The trend is also great because the clothing is classic and will never go out of style.
To Get The Look: trousers, blue & white collar shirts (w/ collar stays), heather-grey coloured clothing, lace-up dress shoes, pea coats, trench-coats, eye-glasses, tie-clips, neutral colored ties (regular, skinny, and bow-ties), and anything that looks like it would be worn on the set of Happy Days or The Great Debaters.
Designers for the look: Ralph Lauren, Junya Watanabe, Tom Ford, Michael Kors, DKNY
Designers for the look: Gucci, D&G, Dr.Romanelli
Best Designer for this seasons Trends: Dsquared
Designers Dean and Dan do the best job of combining all of
the seasons trends from the “Russian Look” to
“The Jacket Fanatic” to “The Blue Collar Worker”.
He’s young, fresh, and cool. Hip-hop singer Chris Brown does the best job of displaying this season’s trends when on and off the red-carpet.
1. Arab Scarf- yes, it’s still in.
2. Glasses- you MUST have the ability to look intellectual at a moment’s notice.
3. Boldly Colored Fitted Jeans- Lil’Weezy, Chris Brown, Kanye West- they ALL rock em
4. Unique Jacket- it makes getting ready so easy- jeans, t-shirt, and a superTight jacket.
5. Gold Jewelry- if you still haven’t gotten a gold watch or gold chain you need to cop one.
(side note: Gaudy gold is slightly played, so your gold jewelry shouldn’t look costume)

The Urban Gentleman
Blue: Sound simple right, well it is. Blue is one the current colors of the season. This is the easiest current men’s trend- all you have to do is buy blue clothes- I’d suggest some nice cobalt blue button-ups and maybe a indigo blue tie.
Unique Frames: Nothing says “I’m fly” better than a unique pair of shades. The traditional aviators are always great, but try a box-framed aviator in one of your favorite colors is even better.
Neckwear: A great way to update your wardrobe without buying more clothes is to buy a few ties and scarves. If you’re a newbie to the scarf department you should stick to the traditional Arab scarf- it comes in a variety of colors. Ties are a great way to complete any look . . . and skinny ties are still a cut above the rest. Add a complimenting solid bright tie to your neutral toned button-up and sweater.
80’s: Everything 80’s is in . . .solid bright colors, geometric types shapes, gold jewelry, funky sneakers, and more. Some guys like to go completely 80s I suggest going “neatly 80s” meaning don’t go too overboard unless you’re going to themed party. Keep your 80s look neat and clean by wearing a bright 80’s graphic tee and sneakers, but instead of wearing bright 80’s esque pants wear dark denim jeans and some unique frames.
Rock Star: One of the most popular looks for men is the “Rocker look” everyone from Lil’Wayne to David Beckham rocks style that make them look as if they bonified Rock Stars. The main staples for this look are fitted t-shirts and jeans that fit (no baggy jeans allowed). An Ed Hardy t-shirt and True Religion jeans are easy ways accomplish “The Rock Star”. I suggest mimicking ensembles of true rock starts like Travis Barker or mimicking the styles of guys who have the look down-pack like Lupe Fiasco.
Urban Prep: This is my personal favorite. It’s such a versatile look and truly signifies the meaning of “The Urban Gentleman”. Urban Prep is a mixture of the latest hip-hop trends and the traditional preppy look. There are a variety of ways to get the look, and is up for individual interpretation, but one simple example is to wear a fitted hat and chuck tailors/converse or unique sneakers with a button-up, sweater vest, and tie.
