See is one of those shops that just catches your eye when passing it, so much so that you just have to walk in… that's exactly what happened with us. Not only was the store great– classic, stylish, and slightly minimalistic (to put more focus on the frames), but the store probably has the best curated collection of eyewear photos that I have ever seen (see a few below). Oh, and did I mention that the customer service was awfully fantastic? Well, it was and and we didn't even buy anything.
Katie, the store's manager (her customer service was SUPERB ) briefly schooled us on the eyewear industry and how "designer" frames at a Lenscrafters or Pearl Vision or any other eyeglass retailer aren't created by the designer, but are actually designed by the retailer. Then a label is just slapped on them along with an huge increase in price. But See Eyewear, not only design and make their own frames, they get materials and inspiration from all around the world– not to mention the prices aren't that bad either. So if you're on the market for new glasses definitely check them out.
This is probably my favorite photo from the store.

Oliver Peoples is known for their iconic eyewear, these are the glasses you think about when reading classic novels that take place in an old English town or when watching classic American movies.

Oliver Peoples glasses are based on vintage eyewear and have been featured in many movies and are worn by many stars. Their glasses have a certain personality about them that is unique to most other eyewear designers. Long story short- if you own a pair of Oliver Peoples glasses you must have impeccable taste…. in eyewear atleast.

Glasses. When you were little wearing them made you lame. People didn’t like you, some even called you names. . . 4-eyes, goggles, etc. But now it’s 2008. . . and the past few years have been slowly preparing us for this moment- GLASSES are HOT. The flyest dudes in the world rock glasses these days, and you might as well join the club. And the best thing about them is that they automatically make you look smart- boosting your IQ by atleast 50 points, lol. Glasses are absolutely a perfect addition to an Urban Gentleman’s wardrobe.
Not every retail store carries clear glasses quite yet, but many do. There are several ways to get these glasses- check out the list below:
1. The Urban Gentleman Store
We have the latest styles are recession-friendly prices. We seriously have the best collection of all the latest trends in eyewear, clear glasses and sunglasses, at very low prices, check it all out here.
2. American Apparel
They always keep chic frames in stock. There online selection is okay, but the instore selection is much better.
3. Thrift Store
The thrift store carries the most unique frames, and more often that not, thrift store frames are the kind you see in pictures and movies. If you’re from Atlanta- check out Little Five Points for these authentic frames- they have the best selection.
4. LensCrafters
If you want a huge selection of glasses and designer frames to choose from then LensCrafters is your spot. You can just buy the frames straight off the floor or get a prescription put in the lenses. LensCrafters also has coupons.
5. Drug Stores, Wal-Mart, or Target
Drug Store like CVS or Walgreens and places like Wal-Mart or Target carry reader glasses for really cheap prices. If the reader has a prescription in it then just pop the lenses out. This would be the best choice for someone who wants to test out the style.
6. Urban Outfitters
You can always just buy a pair of shades or use some old shades and pop the lenses out.
8. Online
Buying these glasses online are also pretty easy, and as always The Urban Gent store is your best friend. And don’t be afraid to wear or buy glasses that are modeled by females- glasses are mostly uni-sex anyway.
Other online sites:
- ICUeyewear.com: Great styles for really great prices.
- Readingglasses.com: They have a great selection of reading glasses, including retro styles.
- Bleudame.com

Get designer frames from LensCrafterBlue: Sound simple right, well it is. Blue is one the current colors of the season. This is the easiest current men’s trend- all you have to do is buy blue clothes- I’d suggest some nice cobalt blue button-ups and maybe a indigo blue tie.

Unique Frames: Nothing says “I’m fly” better than a unique pair of shades. The traditional aviators are always great, but try a box-framed aviator in one of your favorite colors is even better.

Neckwear: A great way to update your wardrobe without buying more clothes is to buy a few ties and scarves. If you’re a newbie to the scarf department you should stick to the traditional Arab scarf- it comes in a variety of colors. Ties are a great way to complete any look . . . and skinny ties are still a cut above the rest. Add a complimenting solid bright tie to your neutral toned button-up and sweater.
80’s: Everything 80’s is in . . .solid bright colors, geometric types shapes, gold jewelry, funky sneakers, and more. Some guys like to go completely 80s I suggest going “neatly 80s” meaning don’t go too overboard unless you’re going to themed party. Keep your 80s look neat and clean by wearing a bright 80’s graphic tee and sneakers, but instead of wearing bright 80’s esque pants wear dark denim jeans and some unique frames.
Rock Star: One of the most popular looks for men is the “Rocker look” everyone from Lil’Wayne to David Beckham rocks style that make them look as if they bonified Rock Stars. The main staples for this look are fitted t-shirts and jeans that fit (no baggy jeans allowed). An Ed Hardy t-shirt and True Religion jeans are easy ways accomplish “The Rock Star”. I suggest mimicking ensembles of true rock starts like Travis Barker or mimicking the styles of guys who have the look down-pack like Lupe Fiasco.
Urban Prep: This is my personal favorite. It’s such a versatile look and truly signifies the meaning of “The Urban Gentleman”. Urban Prep is a mixture of the latest hip-hop trends and the traditional preppy look. There are a variety of ways to get the look, and is up for individual interpretation, but one simple example is to wear a fitted hat and chuck tailors/converse or unique sneakers with a button-up, sweater vest, and tie.
