Pharrell Wears Red and Black

Wait, hold up, is that.. is that, yeah it is- hmmm, so Pharrell’s rockin’ the Beckham one shirt tail in one shirt tail out as well huh… pretty cool. And I’m lovin’ the Martin Margiela jacket… hot ish.

Check it, Pharrell with Madonna @ Madison Square Garden: NYC-Hard Candy Tour.

Pharrell keeps fashion so simple to me… even when he wears alot of layers (as seen above) it still seems as if his style is effortless. For example, look at his jeans, now check the Urban Gent archives for Pharrell (tag cloud on lower right hand side of page)- what you will see is that he wears these same exact jeans everywhere, with everything… and I personally LOVE it- I mean he’s rich so he clearly has like 20 pair, but still we can’t tell… I think the motto of the day will be “do you” b/c it’s clear that you can be stylish and not own 1000 shirts and 1000 pair of jeans… simplicity is a key ingredient to style these days.

PS- look at Pharrell’s ensemble with and without the glasses, which looks better…. with the glasses, right? Sometimes small things can make a big difference. I don’t like the outfit in the bottom picture, but in the middle and top pictures I think it’s pretty fresh. If you don’t own a pair already, please cop some glasses... they can really make your look.

An Orginator of Fly: The Style of Pharrell Williams

The style of Pharrell Williams is purely iconic

Pharrell Williams is simply fly. He began as a behind-the-scenes guy producing some of the hottest beats and tracks for stars to being his own hip-hop rock sensation. And like wine- with time he's managed to age into one of the coolest most unique easygoing chill nerds we all know. . . and love! Just like his music, his style has also gracefully developed to be one of the best in the world. He's been idolized and adorned by all the top style powerhouses including Gentleman's Quaterly (GQ).

I love Pharrell for his ability to make looking fashionable easy. I absolutely love the style of guys like Kanye West, but let's be real- you Know they take a good bit of time thinking carefully about what to rock. Pharrell, on the other hand, rarely looks like that. And the fact that he's pushing 40, and he's able to wear what he wears without us questioning it, is fly. . .well, lol, he's like 35- which is young, but you get what I mean . . . Pharrell's style should not be taken for granted by anyone. Yeah he may rock an over-sized purple Hermes bag, but hey – he's Pharrell. And the older some guys get the more flamboyant they become as well. . . and that isn't always a bad thing.

Alright so dude is unique. He mixes skater guy + beach bum + hip hop + prep. Alot huh? Yeah it is, but to be honest he is actually one of the originators of this look that every guy tries to rock these days. And since he's an orginator you should pay close attention to how he dresses. Basically his style is a collaboration of different looks and on the average day to get Pharrell's look, you do this:

small/medium one-image graphic tee + quality denim jeans (that are slightly fitted) + ice cream or bape shoes or low-top vans+ trucker hat + keychain on your jeans + digital watch = Pharrell's style.

Now of course the easiest way to get Pharrell's look is to just rock clothes from his Billionaire's Boys Club line. But in general, the brands Pharrell wears are: A Bathing Ape (BAPE), Ice Cream, BBC, and Louis Vuitton. And as of late he's shown love for murses and manbags– a term he hates by the way, lol- sorry Pharrell. So rockin a bright colored travel bag with your threads may give you an even more authentic Pharrell look.

Mr.Williams doesn't just do the whole casual hip-hop/skater/beach bum look, he also dresses perfectly preppy on a regular- check out his latest photos from GQ Magazine's July Issue:

At the end of the day Pharrell is a world-wide trendsetter and when you add that to the fact that he was Voted The Best Dressed Man in the World by Esquire in 2005, well that just boosts his fashion credibility and make's him one of the most official Urban Gentleman.

Pharrell & Kanye at the Louis Vuitton Menswear Show

Pharrell & Kanye looking like BFFs

As Kanye says, “Cuz it’s Louis Vuitton Don night”. . . the self-proclaimed LV Don’s Kanye West and Pharrell Williams were at the 2009 Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer Menswear Show in Paris yesterday. As expected, both men were stylish in their own way.

One of my favorite looks from the show.
I really like the subtle two-tone shirt, the airy blue and sand colors really compliment each other. The jacket is cool too- really simple and clean.

Kanye has alot going on in this look, but I really like the shoes and the buttons- which includes a Micheal Jackson button. Why, you may ask. . .b/c it’s different and a cool accessory that most men don’t take advantage of.
Pharrell keeps his look very casual as well, he has a b-boy prep look going on. He wears that BBC shirt and those Rayban wayfarer shades every time he gets a chance, huh?
I like it though
. . . it’s always good to have certain signature looks in your style.

Who has the better casual look,
Kanye or Pharrell?

The Man + Purse: Murses & Manbags

Pharrell Williams has a $67,000 purple/pink crocodile
Hermes bag

When men first began carrying bags that were traditionally worn by women people laughed- they laughed loud and they laughed hard. But with some of manliest men and top style gurus strutting . . . I mean walking around with these bags you have to ask yourself- is it really THAT bad? Some people think that the "man-bag" portrays 1 of 2 things: you're self-absorbed or you like men. I'm thinking that stigma is changing. The list of of men who rock "murses" grows everyday: Pharrell, David Beckham, Lupe Fiasco, Tom Brady, Seal, Kanye West, Ryan Reynolds, and Terrence Howard just to name a few.

Terrence Howard w/ his black patent & leather crocodile

Lupe Fiasco and his red Goyard bag

Seal w/ a black leather murse

Tom Brady w/ an army fatigue murse

In his interview with Paper Magazine Pharrell talks about his murse/travel bag:

“Don’t call it a murse,” says PHARRELL, pulling out his second look from the gargantuan purple croc HERMES tote, which he has accessorized with another JACOB key chain, this one covered in yellow diamonds to match the bag’s gold hard-ware.

“It’s not a man purse. It’s my travel bag.”

PHARRELL says style is… "about who you are, where you’re going, what’s comfortable…It’s your attitude that makes it hot.”

“It’s not that I’m necessarily proud of being a nerd,” says PHARRELL. “It’s who I am.”

Pharrell is truly stuntin' with his 2 Hermes murses,
he's so proud!
I think he's an advocate for the murses, he'll probably start a non-profit in support of men carrying bags that look like purses. . . (I'm just playin')

Personally, I think it's okay for a man to have a bag especially if it's a satchel or messenger- I think they look great. It just becomes a little questionable when he carries it like a purse, you know under his arm like Tom Brady or the way Terrence Howard does. Pharrell's purple color choice is a bit feminine. . . it's kind of cool, but then it's not at the same time. These huge bags are very appropriate for travel, but not so much for just walking around the streets on a daily basis like below. . . (cough cough) Pharrell:

So how do you feel about murses & man-bags?
