EMPIRE HOODY: Sean John

This is a really unique hoody from Sean John. The jacket has a nice shape that will look good on most guys. I particularly like the creme color and gold hardware… On sale at Dr.Jays for $118.

I Am King: Sean John

So Mr.Sean Diddy Combs has a new fragrance out- he’s calling it, “I Am King”. The cologne hit stores in December. He has plans to use our new President, Barack Obama, to promote it in an effort to “redefine the perception of African Americans”. I’m not sure how a cologne will do this– mind boggling to me. I figured if an African-American wants to redefine the perception of African-Americans he’d start with himself… idk, maybe it’s just me. Anyway when I go on my next fragrance testing adventure, I’ll try to remember to smell it…. I mean, Unforgivable is pretty great.

The Polo List: The Best Polos for Men

A-town rapper Ludacris is a huge Ralph Lauren Polo fan
BET Awards, June 2008

Polos are one of the essentials of a gentleman's wardrobe. You can easily wear them in a dressy or casual manner. There are hundreds of different types of polos you can choose from, but I've narrowed the polo types and brands down to make the 1st official Polo List.

A mini-history lesson: The polo shirt was first known as a tennis shirt. It was designed by 7-time French Grand Slam tennis pro, Rene Lacoste. He designed it because he needed a more comfortable shirt to play tennis in. He first wore it in the 1926 US Open Championship and in 1927 he added the crocodile emblem. Polo players began to heavily wear the shirt in the 1930s (after Lacoste began to mass produce them)- hence the nickname "polo shirt". In 1972 Ralph Lauren included the "polo shirt" as a prominent part of his line called Polo- to further boost popularity. Many English speaking westerners started calling the tennis shirt a "polo shirt" on a widespread level because of Ralph Lauren immense popularity . . . see, you learn something new everyday :-) okay, back to the list. . .

Best Brands for Men: Easy Style

Let’s face it; everyone isn’t born with fashion sense. There are many people who don’t have a clue what to wear or even where to buy nice clothes. Some men just don’t want to spend the time perusing different stores and trying on a bunch of different brands of clothing. But there are a few brands and stores that can make being stylish easy:

- Sean John
- Abercrombie and Fitch
- Urban Outfitters

Sean John:
For most guys I know who are trying to “care about what they wear” and gain style, I tell them, “buy Sean John”. Sean John is perfect for style-searching newbies, the label has great clothes, good prices, most guys are familiar with the brand (b/c of Diddy), it has some street-cred because many rappers wear it, and it doesn’t force a guy to just completely change his look. Sean John is the best brand for men who typically wear extra-baggy jeans and oversized t-shirts because it’s a gateway to better style. Diddy’s brand offers a variety of styles from suits to button-ups to graphic t-shirts, you can build a whole wardrobe from the brand. Another plus about Sean John is that you can find the brand almost everywhere: Macys, Dillards, T.J Maxx, or K and G Superstore just to name a few.

Sean Combs has even won New Designer of the Year at the CFDA’s, which is the highest honor any fashion brand can receive– Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, and Calvin Klein are a few other designers who have been honored with the prestigious award.

Abercrombie & Fitch:
“I like girls that wear Abercrombie & Fitch”, that song wasn’t just talking about the style of girls, it indirectly pertained to the style of guys too :-)

If you want to follow the most popular trends of America- this is the store and brand I would recommend. You can hardly go wrong shopping here. From the O.C to the Hills to most shows with a young hot cast of 20-somethings-they all sport threads from A and F. The store features classic American styles with the surfer-guy looks dispersed in-between. A&F can be kind of overpriced, so I would suggest Aeropostale for men who want the same look at a better price. And if you’re older (29 or above), you may want to shop at Banana Republic, which offers the same look, but just more mature, more versatile, and more clean. If you can’t afford Banana Republic, then try it’s little sister store, GAP- everyone shops there from 2-60.

Urban Outfitters:
If you really want to eventually dress like the most stylish men in Hollywood, Urban Outfitters is the place for you. Urban Outfitters follows, defines, and sometimes even rivals the current trends. The store is edgy and unique, and allows you to feel like an individual when shopping there. UO is the store for men who want to one-day stylistically compete with Kanye, Lupe, and Pharell. Urban Outfitters not only carries the best threads, but they have all the accessories too- colorful box-framed aviators, studded belts, and original sneakers. Many of the clothes are a little pricey, but they always have sales.
