My Home Floats on Water: The Luxury Floating Home Lifestyle

  floating-home-urbangent1

The Urban Gentleman HQ (headquarters),  June 2019

Almost two years ago I came across a tv show about floating homes. I knew people lived in their boat houses, and yachts, and homes built overlooking water. But a house, a modern house, on the water, in the USA? This was new for me. Apparently it's a thing people do now, especially in state of Washington. Lake Union is full of luxury floating homes. Anyway, seemed like a good day to show some love to our future floating home lifestyle.

Lake house + main house, why? Might as well just combine the two like a boss.

A Polished Man: The Honorable, Stylish, Well-Groomed Kid Saving Hero

As you all know, we're all about that gentleman life here at The Urban Gent. But beyond style, fashion, and grooming there's the actual manners, personality, and overall morals and ethics that is required to be a proper Urban Gentleman. To really, really be one you have to be a man of character and honor.

From  Chris Hemsworth, to Zac Efron, to NBA and NFL Players men with integrity and standards are fighting against child abuse and becoming Polished Men

I stumbled upon a photo of Zac Efron with his nail painted bright red, and thought to myself, 'Umm, okay, what's going on with this guy here.' I looked a little further and found out it was about a campaign called The Polished Man. The Polished Man, an extension of YGap, has taken on the formidable goal to end violence against children. They're challenging men to "nail it and end it." 1 out of 5 children are subject to physical and/or sexual violence before the age of 18.

Recently, I've found myself learning more and more about the unfortunate abuse that happens to boys and girls in the entertainment industry. The girls we often hear about (ex. Woody Allen, etc), but the molestation of boys / young men by the hands of men is what constantly goes under the radar.  There's been so much said about rappers like Lil Wayne and Young Thug to R&B groups like Immature / B2K, and so many more being violated as children at the hands of their producers, managers, and/or label heads. You can read about that vomit-worthy underbelly of Hollywood, here. But if it happens in those arenas, you know it could be happening right next door at the homes, schools, churches, and sports arenas in your neighborhoods. It's vital to not turn a blind eye to this type of, well, demonic severely perverted behavior– whether it's family, friends, coworkers, pastors, principles, moguls, or whomever. Saving a child from a life of painful, potentially life-threatening, memories is exactly what a Polished Man would do. No amount of money, no amount of threats, would keep a man, especially a gentleman, especially an Urban Gentleman silent. Besides, saving a kid from abuse definitely wins you automatic entrance into heaven, valhalla (for my fellow Vikings fans), or whatever higher place you seek to go once your journey ends in this life.

Read a little bit more below and find lots more information, here.

President Barack Obama is obviously a polished man

WHAT IS POLISHED MAN? Being a Polished Man means you don’t turn your back on the vulnerable. You raise your voice – and nail – to say, “not on my watch”. You embrace the smirks and know it doesn’t matter; there are worse things than being embarrassed by a little mani. Because nailing it isn’t about shouting the first round, or how much you lift. Nailing it is saying no to violence against children.

My Canali Story + The Urban Gentleman’s Favorite Canali Looks for the Season: Suits, Polos, Pocket Squares, Denim, Loafers, Dress Shirts, Belts

CANALI: Since 1934 in Italy

Suit, shirt, tie, pocket square. Suit, shirt, tie, pocket square. Suit, shirt, tie, pocket square, belt, shoes, socks, cologne. This was how I spent my slow hours as an intern in the Men’s Furnishings department at Nordstrom. I would sit around doing these combos, honing my ability to pick out the perfect suit combo off the cuff.  My eye for a suit combo became amazingly good, I was sort of a machine, the suit-tie-pocket-square combo slayer if you will. When a man walked in my department I scanned his frame, processed his wants and needs sized him up and paired him perfectly within minutes. This particular Nordstrom was located in the wealthiest part of town so the men I dressed were CEOs, NFL players, restaurant owners, and I even dressed my first "royal" there. Given the clientele I had to prepare myself for these types, for the men who came in wanting the absolute best we had to offer. My combo was nearly always the same for these men: Canali Suit, matching dress shirt (the brand would vary), Zegna or Robert Talbott SevenFold tie, Ferragamo shoes and belt.

The Canali Suit — I remember asking Stacey, the dashing perfectly dressed and groomed manager of the suit department, if he could teach me everything he knew about suits. It was during this training that I first learned what cuts, brands, and styles looked best on certain body types. He also taught me that Canali was the best, and they've been one of my favorites menswear brands ever since.

Bottega Veneta Pour Homme Parfum – Those who know me know my love and adoration for Bottega Veneta, so I was pumped to try their fragrance. This was one of our favorites, it's a luxurious scent to be worn during formal occasions, like those summer weddings that are piling up. A few sprays well blended into your skin will certainly have you at official Urban Gentleman status.

Top Notes: Cedar and Cardamom // Middle notes Pimento and Fir // Base Notes: Leather, Labdanum, and Tonka beans
